The Vegas Shoot 2022 Recap

The Vegas Shoot 2022 is in the books, and as always, the archery skill on display was impressive. First place finishes in the Championship divisions included: Bodie Turner, Compound Open (23-man shoot-off); Liko Arreola, Compound Female (photo above; three-woman shoot-off); Bill Drake, Compound Senior; Dewey Hathaway, Compound Young Adult; Brady Ellison, Recurve Male; Casey Kaufhold, Recurve Female; Christian Stoddard, Recurve Young Adult; and Richard Stark, Barebow Open.

It’s not an exaggeration to say that The Vegas Shoot 2022 was dominated by youth. Bodie Turner (above), winner of the Compound Open, turned 15 during the event, topping archers with decades more experience. This was his third year competing in The Vegas Shoot, but his first as a pro. Even more impressive, the winner of Compound Female, Liko Arreola, is only 14, and she defended the pro title she won in 2021 at the age of 13! Both Turner and Arreola shoot for Hoyt Archery.

Recurve Shooter Casey Kaufhold to Compete for Texas A&M University

Casey Kaufhold, who recently won the Recurve Female division at The Vegas Shoot 2022, announced that she’ll compete for Texas A&M University, beginning this fall. Kaufhold is also a Tokyo 2020 Olympian and 2021 World Archery Championships silver medalist.

Kaufhold said, “I knew I wanted to do archery in college because I’m planning on continuing to compete in the World Cups and at a high level, so I wanted a school that had a major I was interested in, as well as a strong team where I know the archers on it would push me. I push myself to practice, but I like to have people around me that I can do matches with or practice scoring for small, friendly competitions. A&M looked like the best choice right now for me to have that experience.”

Kaufhold was accepted to the visualization major in the College of Architecture, where she will explore career opportunities in the creative design realm while pursuing archery at the highest level of training and competition.

The Texas A&M archery team is 22-time national champions. They have team members in the recurve, compound, bowhunter and barebow divisions.

Pope and Young Launches New Website

Pope and Young recently announced its new website that has coincided with their recent rebrand. This fresh online home is set to appeal to bowhunters of all ages and will help Pope and Young further its mission to preserve, promote, and protect the sport of bowhunting.

“In today’s world we understand the importance of having a strong digital presence” said Pope and Young Director of Marketing Dylan Ray. “Our updated website will serve as a critical tool, helping us educate, inform, and empower bowhunters around the world. From current issues that will affect the future of conservation and bowhunting, to our online records database, the website will help us further our mission of preserving, promoting and protecting bowhunting and bowhunter’s rights.”

The challenges facing bowhunting are ever evolving, and the organization’s new website (www.pope-young.org) is one of many tools Pope and Young will use to ensure bowhunting opportunities for generations to come.
