Former Rock Star Sentenced to Prison on Felony Gun Violation

Robert Todd Harrell, a founder and bass player for the rock group 3 Doors Down, was sentenced to 10 years in Mississippi for a felony gun charge.

Robert Todd Harrell, a founder and bass player for the rock group 3 Doors Down, was sentenced to 10 years in a Mississippi prison for felony gun charges.

He was arrested in June 2018 when his home alarm system went off. His wife told law enforcement responders that she and Harrell had argued and he became physical with her. Officers saw drugs and a firearm, secured a search warrant and Harrell was arrested. He was charged with possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.

Judge Robert Krebs sentenced Harrell to 10 years, the maximum penalty.

Harrell had been convicted in 2015 for vehicular manslaughter and drug charges in Tennessee following a 2013 vehicle crash that killed a man. In that case, Harrell was found to have the drugs alprazolam and oxycodone in his system at the time. While out on bond, in 2014 he was charged in Mississippi with Driving While Intoxictated after being found slumped over the wheel of his vehicle.

He was sentenced to two years in Tennessee. He served about one before being released for good behavior, and also was given six years of probation. The arrest in his Mississippi home in June 2018 violated that probation.

Harrell and 3 Doors Down formed in 1996 and scored a hit single in 1999, "Kryptonite." The band's debut album went platinum six times in the United States.
