12 New Red-Dots for 2025

Innovative new technologies and functional improvements are driving the red-dot market.

12 New Red-Dots for 2025

It wasn’t long ago that having a red-dot sight mounted on a pistol was a novelty. Aside from competition shooters who embraced red-dots early in the late 1970s and ’80s, most people considered the use of one on a duty, home-defense or concealed carry pistol outlandish.

Then things began to change. When Trijicon launched its RMR (Rugged Miniature Reflex) sight in 2009, the shift of red-dots from competition pistols to other handguns started. Soon, nearly every major pistol manufacturer developed “optics-ready” models that facilitated mounting a red-dot sight onto the slide.

While many shooters resisted the change, many others quickly embraced it for good reason. It is much easier to place the dot on the target exactly where desired, especially in low-light conditions, than to align iron sights. Many experienced a swift increase in accuracy. Before long, smaller pistols, including so-called Micro-9s, were designed to be optics-ready, and carry practitioners began adopting mini red-dot sights. This led holster manufacturers to create models specifically for pistols equipped with these sights.

One downside is the electronic conundrum. Many defensive pistol shooters are hesitant to depend on an electronic sight that might fail when it is most needed, which is a valid concern. Others dislike having to remove the red-dot to replace batteries, only to then have to resight their pistol back on target. Fortunately, manufacturers have made significant progress in addressing these issues, creating sights that can run for years on a single battery and designing battery compartments that allow for replacement without needing to remove the sight from the slide.

While recent years may have suggested that the red-dot market was cooling off, SHOT Show 2025 eliminated any such idea with many manufacturers unveiling brand new red-dot sights in Las Vegas.

Red-Dot Ruminations

Before we examine some of those introductions, let’s take a look at four factors many red-dot shoppers consider when making a purchase. First is footprint, which is of utmost importance. Among the most popular are RMR and RMSc footprints. Retailers need to ensure that customers know for certain that the optic they are considering will indeed fit their pistol to avoid frustration later on.

Another critical factor is dot size. For carry and self-defense purposes, many prefer a larger dot in the 4-MOA range, as shots are unlikely to be at extended distances. For target shooting and competition, red-dot sights with smaller dots are often the best choice.

Brightness adjustment is another factor that most customers will consider. The ability to easily modify the dot intensity regardless of lighting conditions is a definite plus. Some units even handle this automatically, sensing the available light and adjusting the brightness accordingly.

Lastly, cost is almost always a factor.  Like most electronic devices, very inexpensive red-dots will not perform as well as high-end units that cost $500 or more. Fortunately for budget-conscious customers, there are plenty of quality red-dots available on the market that work well without breaking the bank.

With that being said, let’s examine 12 new red-dots that could help you increase your profits for the remainder of 2025.

The Burris FastFire line is legendary, and this year’s new introduction, the Burris FastFire E, is the first fully enclosed emitter red-dot in the FastFire series designed for pistols, shotguns and carbines. Constructed from monolithic machined aluminum, it is waterproof, shockproof and fog-proof — ready for just about any environment. The 3.5-MOA dot featuring an “always on” option ensures instant readiness, and the unit is powered by a CR2032 battery with a 60,000-hour life. Its aspherical lenses provide a distortion-free, glare-resistant view, enhanced by eight brightness settings (two of which are night-vision compatible) and a choice of red or green dot.

The new C&H Precision COMP MAX is built with a larger window to appeal to competitive shooters and those who use a red-dot sight when plinking at the range. However, it maintains the same footprint as the RMR to ensure widespread compatibility. Other features include 10 brightness levels (including two for night vision), Shake Awake technology to toggle the device on and off, a one-piece body CNC machined from 7075 aircraft-grade aluminum and a battery life of 50,000 hours using a CR 2032 3V lithium battery. The COMP MAX is available in two finish options — black and flat dark earth (FDE).

C-More’s RTS3 red-dot is a complete redesign focusing on maximum performance and reliability. A larger, performance-coated aspherical lens offers a clear field of view for faster target acquisition from the draw and smoother target-to-target transitions. It utilizes a CR2032 lithium battery housed in a side-loading, removable aluminum battery tray, allowing for easy replacement without removing the sight. It is available with a 3-, 6- or 9-MOA dot for use in a broad range of shooting applications. Additionally, the RTS3 can mount directly or use separate mounting rails or adapter plates to fit today’s most common firearms.

The Gideon Valor Mini is designed for concealed carry applications and brings the benefits of closed-reflex optics to smaller pistols. Shake-to-awake technology maximizes the battery life of the side-loaded CR-1620 battery, providing tens of thousands of service hours between changes. The reticle goes to sleep after 225 seconds without movement but returns with the slightest motion for instant-on aiming. The 3-MOA dot, 30-MOA circle or both at the same time are available in red or green. It’s compatible with all RMSc footprint slides and can be easily installed using the included 1913 Picatinny rail mount adapter.

The Holosun DPS-TH combines red-dot sighting with thermal technology, offering customers a distinctive sighting option. Featuring a 256x192 Thermal Sensor, the DRS-TH merges a traditional red-dot optic with a thermal overlay, providing shooters with the best of both worlds. With up to 10 hours of battery life for the thermal sensor and over 50,000 hours for the red-dot, users enjoy an optic that meets the most demanding tasks. The White Hot, Black Hot, Outline and Highlight modes offer flexibility depending on the settings. By simply flipping down the front lens cap, it can be used like any red-dot sight.

Meprolight says its new MCO PRO will “unlock the ultimate shooting experience.” Featuring an advanced closed-emitter design, this carbine optic includes a user-selectable three-segment reticle with 10 daytime and two night-vision brightness settings, allowing customization for nearly any shooting scenario.
