4 Fantastic Ground Blinds

Fact: A significant percentage of the bowhunters who visit your archery shop prefer ground blinds over treestands. The reasons are many. For some aging hunters, or those dealing with injuries, or perhaps a fear of heights, they simply feel safer keeping their feet on the ground. And then there are those situations where ground blinds provide better ambush opportunities. Think about it: Ideal treestand trees don’t always grow where we’d like them to, right?

If you’re not sure what you should stock, then allow us to suggest four solid choices. Prices of these blinds range from $140 to $500, so you’re sure to hit the desired price point.

Rhino Blinds Rhino-150

One of the best deals in the blind market is the Rhino-150 ($140) from Rhino Blinds (440-281-8300; www.rhinoblinds.com). This five-hub blind weighs a shade over 18 pounds, measures 75 inches between hubs, and features zipper-less entry. It’s covered in Mossy Oak BreakUp Country camouflage, and offers shoot-through mesh windows.

NAP Mantis 2 Hub Ground Blind

Portability is always an issue with full-sized blinds, which is why the minds behind NAP (708-488-2500; www.newarchery.com) went to work on the Mantis 2 ($200). This 14.5-pound, outside-the-box blind is considerably lighter in weight than similar-sized blinds, offers the Dragnet Window System for custom shooting-port options, and easily accommodates one or two bowhunters. It takes no time to set up. It’s also very easy to brush in because it is outfitted with several brush loops and tie downs, not to mention its overall shape lends itself to disappearing in the timber.

Ameristep Distorter

Weighing 20 pounds and sporting 15 window openings is the new Distorter ($300) from Ameristep (800-847-8269; www.ameristep.com). One look at this blind and it’s easy to see where it got its name. This blind boasts a 104- x 84-inch footprint and measures a full 70 inches at its highest point. Besides its shape and deceptively large size, the coolest thing about the Distorter is its natural-shaped windows that function via a Silent Daisy Chain system.

Primos Double Bull Surroundview 360

Few products made a splash at this past ATA Show the way the Double Bull SurroundView 360 ($499) from Primos (601-879-9323; www.primos.com) did. This revolutionary blind is built with four see-through walls, which eliminates blind spots (pun intended). The best part is, you can see out but critters can’t see in. The 360 weighs 23 pounds, features five shoot-through ports, and is covered in TRUTH camouflage.
