The annual IWA Classics outdoors show in Nuremberg, Germany, is set to take place despite concerns about the Covid-19 virus outbreak in China.

The show is scheduled for March 6-9 at the Exhibition Centre Nuremberg. IWA Classics showcases a wide range of products for the shooting, hunting, self-defense, outdoors and sporting market.

At least 28 countries have confirmed at least one case of Covid-19, commonly known as coronavirus. The Centers for Disease Control offers updates on the Covid-19 virus along with travel information. The outbreak has been deemed a “public health emergency of international concern" by the World Health Organization. The United States has taken steps, including a presidential “Proclamation on Suspension of Entry as Immigrants and Nonimmigrants of Persons who Pose a Risk of Transmitting 2019 Novel Coronavirus."

About 45,500 visitors and 1,619 exhibitors from 121 countries attended the 2019 show.

NürnbergMesse, the European-based exhibition company managing IWA Classics, announced on the show website that it is taking the "safety and health" as top priority. It says it is monitoring the situation, in touch with health authorities and going by the recommendations of the World Health Organization (WHO) and the Robert Koch-Institute (only in German).

NürnbergMesse says it also has taken the following measures for all of its exhibitions:

  • We have set up additional dispensers of disinfectants in the entire area of the Nuremberg exhibition centre. In addition, we have put up notices that raise awareness of proper hand washing.
  • Posters remind our visitors of the opportunity to greet each other with a friendly smile instead of a handshake.
  • Our medical staff has been specially trained in dealing with infectious diseases and is a competent contact point for all questions relating to COVID-19.
  • We have instructed our cleaning companies to clean areas that are usually touched frequently (e.g. door handles, escalator runs) with increased intensity.
