SHOT Show 2016: FN America Competition AR

The new FN 15 Competition rifle from FN America takes FN’s FN 15 series of ARs and dials it in for high-stakes competitive shooting. Built by those who build guns for military and professionals whose lives are on the line, the FN 15 incorporates the wisdom of decades’ worth of experience and feedback from high speed competitors to deliver a gun that will help a shooter reach his or her potential when the clock is ticking and the pressure is intense.

Sporting the distinctive blue finish of FN’s competition guns, the FN 15 Competition’s upper and lower receivers are billet-machined from 7075-T651 aluminum alloy and hard-anodized blue. They are light, strong, durable, and just a little sexy. The flat top upper has a rail for optics.

The buttstock is an adjustable black Magpul MOE SL unit. The SL stands for “slim line” and features ambidextrous release latches, an angled rubber pad with an anti-slip surface, and an anti-rattle design to minimize play on the buffer tube.

The 18-inch barrel is cold hammer-forged, chrome-lined, and has a steel low-profile gas block. It’s capped with a SureFire ProComp 556 muzzle brake to offset recoil and help the competitor get faster, more accurate follow up shots. The handguard is a free floating extended rifle-length M-LOK unit with a top rail.

The FN 15 Competition’s bolt carrier group is nickel-boron coated for smooth, reliable, consistent functioning and wear resistance. It’s laser-marked with the FNH logo. The gas system is rifle-length for smoother and more consistent operation, and the buffer is a heavy H2 unit to absorb some recoil and keep things running smoothly.

The trigger is a Timney Competition single stage unit for a quick, crisp break and improved accuracy, and the rifle has a black Magpul MOE pistol grip for a sure hold and all-day comfort.

The FN 15 Competition weighs 8.1 pounds empty and has an overall maximum length of 39.25 inches and 35.75 inches with the stock fully collapsed. It comes with one 30-round Magpul PMAG and has an MSRP of $2,249.

New From Lucid Optics

The Lucid L7 rifle scope is a 1-6x24 tactical optic that can serve in a number of roles and do all of them right. The 1x to 6x performance is great for a unit of this size and at this price, and it will be equally at home with professionals, competitors, hunters, and recreational sport shooters.

Lucid L7

The 24mm objective lens provides a sharp edge-to-edge crystal clear view throughout the whole magnification range. The comfortable 4-inch to 3.75-inch eye relief means that precise sighting can be accomplished in a number of positions without undue stress on the shooter or his or her neck whether standing at the range, sitting in a blind, racing through competition course, or in close quarters. The reticle is illuminated in Lucid’s blue, which provides better performance under varying conditions than red but is more battery-friendly than green. Studies have shown that blue has a calming effect and shooters need every bit of help they can get when the pressure is on.

The tube is one-piece aluminum and it’s waterproof, fog proof, and shock proof. It has windage and elevation adjustments for 60 MOA in either direction from center in ½ MOA clicks.

The Lucid L7 1-6x24 Rifle Scope has an MSRP of $449.
