Youth Archers Turn Out for 2019 S3DA Vegas National Championship

youth archersOn Feb. 7, 2019, Scholastic 3-D Archery (S3DA) in conjunction with the National Field Archery Association (NFAA) held its 3rd S3DA Vegas National Championship. Youth archers from 22 states met at the South Point Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas, Nevada, shooting for the title of National Champion. Competitors from 31 archery clubs and teams across the United States participated in this competition. These numbers continue to rise as S3DA expands across the western US.

Missouri State S3DA Coordinator Katherine McLean said, “As a member of the S3DA team, it was an honor for me to provide support at the Vegas National Championship. I had the opportunity to work with an awesome group of athletes, coaches and archery parents. S3DA is opening doors for our youth to develop invaluable life skills. It starts with a bow and arrow, but quickly becomes so much more! Building relationships, responsibility, integrity…all that and so much more!”

“I am amazed at the unprecedented growth of the S3DA program,” said S3DA Executive Director Jennie Richardson. “Never before has there been a youth archery program that incorporates so many different aspects of the sport. Students are hungry for opportunities to participate in archery, bowhunting, conservation, and the outdoors. We feel that this well-rounded approach will give ample prospects for all.”

To make the event even more special, several different colleges and universities were on hand to present scholarship opportunities for well-deserving high school students during the award ceremony. Click here for a full list of the Vegas results.

About S3DA

Started in December 2012 by the Scholastic Archery Association, S3DA has grown significantly as a next-step program to follow introductory programs offered as part of 4-H or the National Archery in Schools Program. S3DA addresses the need for a program to bridge beginning target archery experience and more advanced activities such as 3-D shooting and bowhunting. The program currently operates across the United States with hundreds of certified coaches serving thousands of youth archers, grades 3–12.

S3DA is looking forward to its next tournament, the 2019 S3DA Indoor Nationals, held in conjunction with NFAA and just prior to the NFAA Indoor Nationals.
