TrackingPoint, which makes the so-called "Precision-Guided Firearm" told Shooting Sports Retailer it is back up and running, with founder John McHale at the helm as CEO and co-founder John Lupher as VP for Engineering.

With amazing technology, the TrackingPoint Precision-Guided Firearm promised to “shoot beyond human capability.” But with two rounds of major layoffs and three CEOs in just four years, the young company seemed to finally succumb to a market that might not have been ready for it.

Shooting Sports Retailer has learned that TrackingPoint, makers of a high-tech rifle that is billed as being able to shoot a moving target at almost 1,000 yards, has suspended all orders for its so-called precision guided firearm "due to financial difficulty."

Sources tell Shooting Sports Retailer the company has laid off more than 40 employees — with more pink slips to come. But the CEO claims the company is healthy and poised for growth.

Last year, TrackingPoint released the 5.56 variant of its lineup for around $9,995, but today the company announced it has dropped the price to $7,495.
