New 2017 Hunting Knives

In the world of all things archery, manufactures have put a lot into their 2017 offerings. We’ve compiled the top options for bowhunters and target archers alike. We start with knives: a hunter’s essential tool, especially when the hunt ends with success and there’s work to be done.

Wiebe Knives: Red Fox

For caping, skinning and a variety of venison work, nothing beats a replaceable-blade knife like the new Red Fox ($35) from Wiebe Knives (605-744-0133; www.wiebeknives.com). The Red Fox measures 4.25 inches closed and 7.25 inches when fully opened. The no-slip, highly visible handle ensures you won’t need stitches, nor will you need to scratch around in the leaf litter to find the knife you just set down. Each Red Fox is sold with 24 crazy-sharp replacement blades to get you through a full season – or three.

Bear & Son: 9112G

The American-made 9112G ($85) from Bear & Son (www.bearandsoncutlery.com) is a guthook folder that is lightweight, durable and razor-sharp. The aircraft-aluminum handle boasts a slip-resistant Mossy Oak Break-Up Country finish, and a belt clip allows the user to securely fasten the blade to their gear. The 27/8-inch high carbon stainless-steel blade is ultra-durable, perfect for daily use in camp as well as cleaning game. The 9112G measures 7.75 inches overall.

Browning: Hell’s Canyon Speed Knife

The latest addition to the Browning (www.browning.com) Hell’s Canyon Speed line is the Hell’s Canyon Speed Knife ($50). The Speed Knife measures 8.75 inches in overall length and features a 3.5-inch modified drop point blade constructed from ATS stainless-steel with a carbon-fiber insert. Carbon-fiber inserts in the handle add to the knife’s lightweight design, and a black rubber cord wrap in the grip frame makes for a secure grip. Included with the Speed Knife is a black fitted polymer belt sheath.

FieldTorq Knives: FieldTorq

Using the wrong knife to field-dress an animal isn’t just inconvenient – it can be downright dangerous. That’s why FieldTorq Knives (855-729-2900; www.fieldtorqknives.com) developed the FieldTorq field-dressing supertool. This unique tool features an ultra-safe patented InsideJob blade design that keeps the user safe from errant cuts and slips. It’s also multi-functional, able to serve as a knife, gut hook and bone-cutting tool. This special design makes for significantly faster field-dressing (up to five times faster), and it saves space and weight in a pack as you only need one tool to get the job done. The FieldTorq comes with a sheath, ceramic sharpener and a lifetime warranty.

Bubba Blade: Turkinator

Bubba Blade (844-486-7265; www.bubbablade.com) worked with the NWTF to develop the Turkinator ($50) boning knife, ideal for any type of fowl or game. A tough, razor-sharp stainless-steel fillet knife was paired with a patented no-slip grip. The handle features a non-stick coating bonded with titanium to prevent rusting and pitting. Other features include thumb and finger pads and safety guards for extra protection. A limited edition model in Mossy Oak Break-Up Country ($60) is also available.
